Our series continues with our Corporate Member, Robot Recruitment Agency Founder Canan J. Alkın. In our interview, Ms. Canan J. Alkın talks about how she integrated technology into her life, the story of meeting Wtech, the story of establishing her initiative Robot Recruitment Agency, and the integration of metal collars into business life in the context of robot-human relationship.

1. Could you tell us a little bit about yourself? How has your career journey been so far?

After graduating from ITU Turkish Music State Conservatory, I graduated from Anadolu University, Department of Business Administration. Then, I completed my associate degree in Public Relations, Social Work Expertise, and currently I am a 1st year student in Computer Programming.

If I need to summarize my career journey; I can say that I worked in a small number of companies for a long time. I worked in automotive, health, tourism, construction, technology sectors and worked as a manager in sales, marketing, digital marketing. When I met digital employee technology, I decided to start my own business by seeing the opportunity and future in the market.

I love robots and my job. 1.5 years ago, we signed a ‘new business model’ that has no other example in the world, as Türkiye’s First Robot Recruitment Agency, with 3 different robot technologies employed from a single place; (digital workers, autonomous-mobile robots, collaborative robots).

Along with all these, I have many hobbies. Although they change from time to time, sports and music are indispensable parts of my life. I am interested in playing the violin, swimming, dancing tango, wall painting and recently collecting antiques. Music is an important part of my life and I think it has improved me immensely in terms of creative intelligence.

2. Can you tell us about your personal relationship with technology? Where do you use technology the most in your life?

I use technology in different ways in both my personal and professional life. I believe that advanced technology, when used to our advantage, improves our quality of life and gives us flexibility.

I use technology as an instrument in most aspects of my daily life. When I go from one place to another, I make decisions by looking at the traffic situation, and I can use that time efficiently by listening to podcasts. Thanks to online shopping, I usually do my shopping in the evening calmly. I use a wristband for health monitoring. In addition, thanks to smart devices and mobile apps, we can clean our home/office while we are out and I benefit from this. I also use technology to do new activities, learn a hobby or gain new skills by participating in distant learning programs.

We currently have agreements with 39 different local and foreign technology suppliers. We continue to expand our robot candidate pool; we continue to collaborate with many companies and individuals from different countries around the world by organizing online meetings independent of time and space. In this direction, ChatGPT and some AI applications are the technologies we use the most.

3. How did you cross paths with Wtech? Can you tell us about your relationship with the association?

On a digital platform; I watched our Founding President Dear Zehra Öney’s publication about supporting women entrepreneurs in technology, and I started researching to get more information. I can say that I was impressed the most by the mission and activities of the association, as well as their willingness to solve social problems. I wanted to be a part of the Wtech family to create social change and encourage entrepreneurs.

Now I take an active role in the association, contribute to different projects, and touch students through mentorship programs. With these experiences, I have the opportunity to serve society as I contribute to my social development.

I recommend everyone, especially technology entrepreneurs to reach out to the association, and join our family. Although the name of the association is Woman in Technology Association, we have many members from different sectors regardless of gender.

4. Can you tell us about your story of establishing a Robot Employment Agency? Where did you get the inspiration for such an initiative? What is your vision and the steps you have taken to create a super smart society in the robot-human collaboration that is developing with Industry 5.0?

Initially, we started with this basic question: Do we want humans to work like robots or robots to work for humans? In today’s world, the biggest complaints may be the inability to manage time effectively, increased workload and work stress.

When I was working in the corporate world, I met and was impressed by RPA (Robotic Process Automation) technologies, and I was even more impressed by digital employee technology. From then on, the idea of robot employment was born and my entrepreneurial journey began.

The most remarkable among our solutions is to provide digital employees within 48 hours, specific to the open job role in companies. These technologies are embedded software robots that can be used in all sectors and departments. It includes technologies such as RPA, artificial intelligence, machine learning, natural language processing and OCR. These next-generation technologies can perform business processes by mimicking human performance, reduce the margin of error to zero and interact in any language. In addition, these technologies are no code technologies that are easy to deploy.

In emergency situations such as talent gap, birth, illness, resignation, etc., we install your digital colleague compatible with the technological infrastructure in your company and department. If you find the candidate you are looking for for the position, you can deactivate the robot. At the same time, since it has advantages such as pay-as-you-go, the company’s resources are used efficiently. Human resources need to focus on human + digital employee collaboration and plan their search for new candidates according to this new evolved process. At the end of the day, we all talk about the talent gap, but we don’t change the way we solve it.

At this point, Industry 5.0 symbolizes a period in which technology works together with people and collaboration and creativity come to the fore. Robots and automation will take over routine, dangerous tasks while helping people focus on high-value work. Our mission is to mediate the dissemination of these technologies, to plan the process together, to increase our competitiveness as a country, and to contribute to creating new jobs by getting the share we deserve from global e-commerce.

A super smart society uses technology in areas such as education, healthcare, transportation and environmental sustainability to create a more equitable, sustainable and participatory society. In other words, it uses technology not only to increase productivity, but also to improve people’s quality of life, work and well-being.

5.How are people approaching metal collars (digital workers, collaborative robots and autonomous-mobile robots that you offer within your company) these days? At which points are they hesitant? Where do they get excited?

The rapid introduction of artificial intelligence technologies into the business world has increased the demand for AI-powered digital workers. A digital workforce is essential to make data meaningful. The most important agenda is to ensure agility between the competitiveness of companies that make this investment and those that do not. Those who act early and change their models and the way they do business will become leaders. From the employer’s perspective, the situation is quite acceptable. From the employees’ point of view, unfortunately, it still creates uneasiness because it is not explained correctly. However, it is useful to underline that these technologies are technologies that collaborate with the employees, not ones that go against them.

The current interest in robotics in Türkiye is mostly focused on logistics and warehousing robots. For this reason, we organize free factory visits within the scope of turnkey robot projects for SMEs. We offer turnkey projects by analyzing your business processes on site. In addition, ‘What should be considered when investing in robots? Which robot should be used in which business process? Where to start?” We plan the questions together.

If there is any problem in the production process, there will be no point in your robot investment for sale processes, as well. In 2025, the rate of robot use in production will increase to 45 percent. Hence, robot and automation-related business lines will become much more important. Interest in autonomous mobile robots is increasing day by day. These robots are mostly used in the service and production sectors, can perceive the environment without human intervention thanks to their mapping feature, can move freely within the facility, and undertake operations such as product transportation and placement. We have launched a new application in this regard. By installing the robot free of charge, we offer you the chance to experience both the interaction between the robot, your employees, and your customers.

The future of robot technologies is very exciting. New generation technologies such as artificial intelligence, autonomous mobile robots and collaborative robots are transforming the business world, promising a smarter, more efficient and sustainable future. Human-robot collaboration will not only be the future of work, but also the new norm for today’s high-performance businesses. In a future with robots, everyone will do what they do best and people will be more valuable.

As the Robot Recruitment Agency, we will continue to mediate the meeting of the business world with the future, both with digital employees who work 24/7 and offer solutions to the time differences between countries, and with collaborative robots and autonomous-mobile robots. As a country, we need to focus on science, technology and education, and individually on relearning and improving our technical and technological skills.

Through the “Conversations with Our Members” series, we have the opportunity to have an enjoyable conversation with one of the members of the Woman in Technology Association family, listen to their experiences, and learn about their relationship with technology.
